Popis The medieval inquisition strongly relied on denunciations (Merlo, 1977; Bruschi, 2009; Zbíral-Shaw, 2022; Brundage, 1996; Hill, 2019). However, trial subjects were generally reluctant to provide in-depth and detailed information about dissident religious cultures to the inquisitors (Given, 1997). As a result, inquisitors applied psychological and physical pressure to obtain incriminating testimonies (Given, 1997; Hill, 2019). Given the general gender inequality present in all aspects of social life and the gender roles and norms of medieval Europe (Herlihy, 1995), we hypothesized that there were gender-based differences in incriminations.
