| Popis | This work explores the influence of the Basque language on the variety of Spanish spoken in the Basque Country, with particular emphasis on phonological, morphosyntactic, and lexical features. It presents a comparative linguistic analysis examining syntax, morphology, and phonology of both languages, demonstrating how prolonged bilingualism and language contact between Basque and Spanish have led to significant linguistic adaptations and convergence in the Spanish spoken by Basque speakers. Key phenomena include the modification of the clitic system, the omission of direct object clitics, and the use of specific lexical borrowings from Basque. The study also investigates the influence of Basque syntax on Spanish word order, particularly in nominal phrases and the placement of sentence elements, reflecting underlying structural patterns of the Basque language. Through a review of the literature and comparative linguistic methods, this research highlights the dynamic and evolving nature of language contact in the region. The findings provide insights into the complex relationship between Spanish and Basque and contribute to a broader understanding of linguistic change, bilingual adaptation, and structural convergence. Additionally, the paper reconstructs the tradition of Spanish as documented in etymological and bilingual dictionaries, creating a geographical map of lexical borrowings in Spanish-speaking areas using questionnaires that identify regions where Basque lexical influence is present.
