| Popis | This paper examines a set of diminutive suffixes that occur in both nominal and verbal domains in Dutch, English, and German, analyzed from a nanosyntactic perspective (De Clercq et al. 2025). I argue that cross-linguistic contrasts in diminutive and attenuative marking reflect dif- ferences in how languages lexicalize a shared hierarchy of evaluative features. German produc- tively realizes these features in both nouns and verbs, while English appears to prefer dedicated exponents and instead relies on analytic strategies. Dutch occupies an intermediate position: it has a highly productive nominal diminutive system but only a restricted, largely lexicalized set of verbal attenuatives. |
