| Popis | Recent research on associational life in Lithuania after 1905 suggests a relative readiness to use the newly extended freedom of association. This may be explained by an intellectual culture that emerged in the last decades of the nineteenth century, in which newspapers played an important role. The weekly newspaper Kraj: tygodnik społeczno-polityczny, which began its publication in St. Petersburg in 1882, soon became the most popular Polish-language newspaper in the lands of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The paper debated the newspaper's role as an information source and its impact on shaping the Lithuanian national movement. |
