The research infrastructure (hereinafter RI) CEITEC Nano provides complex conditions for the experimental research in the field of nanotechnology and nanoscience. It has been operated as a single-sited national research infrastructure “under construction” since 2012. The fully operational state of the RI is expected in 2016 when a new complex of laboratories at the Brno University of Technology Campus "Pod Palackého vrchem" will be completed and equipped with all the planned CEITEC instruments.
The RI is designed to provide access of users to fully equiped, mostly clean-room facilities for preparation and characterization of functional nanostructures and advanced materials finding their application especially in the fields of nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, energy harvesting, biosensing and biomedicine.
The RI infrastructure is quite unique in the Czech Republic and other Central European countries (e.g. Poland, Hungary and Slovakia) in terms of the completeness of the available tools and methods for nanotechnology research, and open access- and user’s “self surface” policy. It has been primarily designed as an open RI providing access to the infrastructure to internal (research teams of CEITEC) and external users (both from academia and industry) based on the first-come-first-served principle. Almost all instruments available in the RI will be directly operated by the users, thus increasing the utilization of its equipment.
Thanks to its modern design, emphasizing equal approach to fabrication and characterization methods, the RI CEITEC Nano will also provide complementary services to nanotechnology RIs abroad, where in many cases nanofabrication instruments as a rule prevail to the nanocharacterization ones. It has already become a member of the consortium “Integrating European Infrastructures for Micro-Nano Fabrications”, called EUMINAfab II, coordinated by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
It is obvious, the RI will be used as a natural instrumental base for practical training and education of students.
