Tam někde v dálce oheň kvet
a tak jsem k němu jel
Jen tak s chlapama posedět
jsem zrovna tenkrát chtěl
Ten stařík s tváří vrásčitou
jak dubovej kmen
vyprávěl pověst letitou
o střelci jménem Shane

Byl to Shane
Byl to Shane

I thought I’d better lay me down
before another mile
So I rode my pony to that town
to stop for a little while
the crowd was gathered at the bar
listening to the old man
that told about [a] guy who came from [a]far
and he [here?] was known as Shane

That was Shane
That was Shane

Je v kraji klid však bejval čas
kdy Reed tu s bandou vlád
všem při tom jménu běhal mráz
a nikdo nemoh spát
Reed zabíjel a všecko krad
všecko včetně žen
Reed strašlivě se začal smát
když slyšel jméno Shane

Byl to Shane
Byl to Shane

It’s quiet now but it wasn’t [the] same
when Reed was ruling here
And everyone thought of his name
with fright and scare and fear
He used to rape and he used to kill
everywhere he came
The only time we saw him thrilled
was when he heard of Shane

That was Shane
That was Shane

Ten Shane to je zlý svědomí
lumpů jako Reed
i když je člověk jako my
líp se umí bít
A pak nám pastor vyjevil
že měl dnes živej sen
A den nato se vobjevil
střelec jménem Shane

Byl to Shane
Byl to Shane

Well Shane came on one frightful night
To punish men like Reed
Like one of us but he could fight
More than we all did
The bunch of cowards we all feared
Oh Lord ain’t that a shame
we nothing did till here appeared
the guy whose name was Shane

That was Shane
That was Shane

Měl tváře prachem šedivý
a voči jako len
Měl divný jméno mazlivý
jmenoval se Shane
My všichni na něj koukali
co se bude dít
Pak jména svý jsme říkali
a von dal koni pít

Byl to Shane
Byl to Shane

We saw his face all grey of dust
in the setting sun
and we just didn’t feel much trust
seeing his dangling gun
and things that were too bad till now
seemed to be getting worse
But he didn’t care anyhow
and jumped down from his horse

That was Shane
That was Shane

Měl šaty z módy vyšlý snad
v tom se nevyznám
a unavenej na zem pad
k žlutejm diviznám
A pak se zdvih, řek: Už jsem fit
jen trochu přitom zív
a řek nám, že jde vyčistit
ten Augiášův chlív

Byl to Shane
Byl to Shane

He looked so tired and weary then
like he were almost dead
But he showed us he was a man
I’ll still remember that
When he got up and said I am fit
to make what I’m here for
Must clean this town a little bit
and I’m gonna win this war

That was Shane
That was Shane

A v saloonu tou dobou Reed
se svojí bandou pil
ten Reed by jistě přestal pít
kdyby vytušil
že dostane ho pistolník
s vočima jako len
štíhlej jako řeholník
muž toho jména Shane

Byl to Shane
Byl to Shane

That evening Reed and all his crew
were drinking at the bar
They wouldn’t sit there if they knew
the end is not so far
And punishment is coming on
by the hand of one great man
The man who stands there all alone
the man whose name is Shane

That was Shane
That was Shane

Shane bouchačku si pustil níž
než do saloonu vlez
a my nad ním dělali kříž
vidím to jako dnes
A pak jsme jenom slyšeli
šest poctivejch ran
a tím, že rány zazněly
zhas celej Reedův klan

Byl to Shane
Byl to Shane

A moment later with a smile
he pulled his ‘44
We watched him off a little while
stepping through barroom door
Just standing outside we all heard
six noisy deadly bangs, yeah
he did what we never dared
he finished Reed and his [?] gang

That was Shane
That was Shane

Shane vyšel ven, měl pevnej krok
a řek: je hotovo
však rudá krev mu barví bok
on měl v něm olovo
Pak řek, že je čas vodejít
měl v očích chladnej cejn
a v saloonu byl mrtvej klid
on jmenoval se Shane

Byl to Shane
Byl to Shane

Shane came out his voice was strong
It’s done was all he said
But we saw there was something wrong
His side was bloody red
He said Ain’t got no time to stay
Must keep on playing my own game
And then he went his secret way
We know his name was Shane

That was Shane
That was Shane

Ten večír rosou zastudil
a na kůži sed chlad
i já, ač jsem se nenudil,
jsem řek, že půjdu spát
My dali jsme si po loku,
už stařík spí svůj sen,
jen já mám jizvu na boku
a mý jméno je Shane.

Byl to Shane
Byl to Shane

The man drank up his glass of gin
It’s time to sleep he said
And all the lights went low and dim
so I also went to bed
I always know upon this night
that life’s a silly game
Cause I got a red scar in my side
And my name is Shane

That was Shane
That was Shane
That was Shane...

Shane

Written by Ricky & Marty Wilde

I dreamed I lived the whole thing just last night
Somehow this film just seemed to get it right
I watched a gunfire under dirty western skies
The one man's vision seems to pick me up and fill my eyes

It's Shane, can't you hear me calling you
Shane, if I thought that you would still be riding through
I said Shane, Please take me back there with you
(Take me to you)

I'm watching Marian, as she let go
I felt I was her for a time or so
It's hard for anyone to understand her pain
You gotta see the man to understand she wouldn't change

Shane, can't you hear me calling you
Shane, if I thought that you would still be riding through
I said Shane, Please take me back there with you
(Take me to you)

Shane (I hear it, I hear it, I hear it, Joe's calling)
Shane (I hear it, I hear it, I hear it, Joe's calling)

Shane, can't you hear me calling you
Shane, if I thought that you would still be riding through
I said Shane, Please take me back there with you
(Take me to you)

Shane (I hear it, I hear it, I hear it, Joe's calling)
Shane (I hear it, I hear it, I hear it, Joe's calling)
Shane (I hear it, I hear it, I hear it, Joe's calling)
Shane (I hear it, I hear it, I hear it, Joe's calling)
Shane (I hear it, I hear it, I hear it, Joe's calling)

Shane

Marty & Ricky Wilde wrote this song, inspired by the movie Shane. It appeared as the B-side to Chequered love in 1981.

Marty Wilde: One night I was watching Shane on TV, and suddenly it dawned on me that I was watching a cinematic masterpiece. The film contains some of the finest acting performances in the history of celluloid. The understated way in which Alan Ladd played Shane was an inspiration to me - as, I'm sure, it has been to millions of others over the years. I wrote the lyrics to the song to Alan Ladd and the spirit he leaves behind - a tenderness and gentlemanliness that sometimes seems to have passed us by.

The song Shane was inspired by this movie. What's more, Kim sings "Shane" at the end of the song in pretty much the same way the boy calls this name at the end of the movie.
