Farewell to the project Intercultural Dimensions in Philological Ph.D. Programmes

After more than four years of implementation, the joint project "Intercultural Dimensions in Philological Doctoral Programmes" of seven philological institutes of the Faculty of Arts of MU has come to an end.

The project, funded by the Operational Programme Research, Development and Education, has been running at the Faculty of Arts since 1 September 2017. The aim of the project was to innovate, modernise and internationalise 10 doctoral programmes, to create shared seminars across programmes in the framework of the conversion from disciplines to programmes and to obtain accreditation. The project also included integrating student internships at contracted foreign universities into the curriculum and increasing the competitiveness of graduates in the labour market.

Although the final report has not yet been approved by the funder, from our point of view we can say that the project objectives have been achieved. It was possible to innovate 11 Ph.D. programmes, to introduce interdisciplinary shared courses, to promote international cooperation in 13 foreign universities and to support 5 excellent students by implementing up to six months of internship abroad.

The project was affected by COVID and anti-pandemic measures. Travel and trips abroad were restricted, which complicated the implementation of the last activity of the project, the student internship. Thanks to the fact that the project was extended by one year, this objective was also met. All 5 students completed the internship abroad and despite more or less problems with travel they evaluated the internship as beneficial.

The supported students are very grateful that they did not give up the activity, but words of thanks also go to the whole project implementation team and all the dean's offices for providing facilities and consultation.

More information about the project is available at phdnetwork.phil.muni.cz.
