of Queen's University (Canada),
at Herstmonceux Castle, Sussex, England.

scholarship includes tuition and fees (approximately $5,000 Canadian),

Dr. Jervis will be discussing American foreign policy in the context of
the new administration of President Bush, post-Cold War Europe and NATO
expansion.
Dr. Jervis received his Ph.D. at Temple University in Philadelphia and
has
taught at universities in the United States, South Africa and Croatia.
He
is currently a Civics Education Fellow at the Center for U. S. Studies
of
the Leucorea Foundation at Martin Luther University, Germany. The
lecture
will be in English.

Professor PhDr. Jan Firbas, DrSc.,

University of Leeds,
doctor honoris causa
Katholieke Universiteit Leuven,
doctor honoris causa
University of Turku,
on May 5, 2000,
at the age of 79.
Professor Firbas was a member of the Prague Linguistic Circle, the Societas europa linguistica, and many other Czech, Czechoslovak and international associations and the recipient of numerous awards. Professor Firbas was also the long-time editor-in-chief of Brno Studies in English and a member of the editorial boards of other notable publications.
