Travel

The most convenient airports are Vienna and Prague, some airlines fly directly to Brno.

Traveling from Vienna or Prague

There is a regular train service operating between Vienna and Brno with departures approximately every hour or every second hour. There is also a regular bus service provided by, for instance, Student Agency (RegioJet) or FlixBus.

There are direct trains between Prague and Brno with departures twice in an hour. We recommend taking an EC train, which is the fastest one. You can also go by bus. The connection is operated by companies such as Student Agency (Regiojet), FlixBus and others.

Traveling from Brno airport

There is a direct bus E76 from Brno airport to the center (to Hlavní nádraží = Main train station). The trip will take approx. 17 minutes. At the main train station, you need to change to the tram no. 12 (direction Technologický park). The journey takes about 7 minutes. The stop to get off at is called Grohova. From the main train station, you can also take no. 4 (direction Úvoz). The journey takes about 7 minutes. The stop to get off at is called Obilní trh. Both options bring you close to the faculty.

For the whole trip from the airport to the conference venue, you need a 60-minute ticket. You can pay by card directly on the tram. There are yellow ticket machines where you use your card at the boarding. You only put your card to the machine, there is no need to push any buttons or wait for any receipt. If you are transferring between vehicles, your ticket is still valid for 60 minutes after the first check-in. So, e.g., if you buy a ticket on the bus from the airport and then immediately transfer for no. 12 or no. 4 at the main train station, your ticket should still be valid.

For further usage of the trams throughout your stay, also note that if you are getting off the tram within 15 minutes (and only then), you should also beep your card just before leaving the tram. You will be charged less. A ride under 15 minutes will cost you 20 CZK (0.81 €). A ride of more than 15 minutes will cost you 25 CZK (1.01 €). You should never be charged more than 90 CZK (3.65 €) in a day. You can read more about the system Beep & Go here.

If you don't want to use your card to buy a tram/bus ticket, you can also use cash (coins) in yellow ticket machines at bus/tram stops. Tickets are also sold at newsstands. Alternatively, you can buy a ticket from the driver (for 35 CZK), in which case we recommend that you prepare the exact amount. Do not forget to validate the paper ticket when you get on the bus/tram.

Traveling from Main Train Station (Hlavní nádraží) in Brno

From Hlavní nádraží, take the tram no. 12 (direction Technologický park). The journey takes about 7 minutes, and you get off at Grohova. An alternative is to take no. 4 from the main station (direction Úvoz). The journey takes about 7 minutes, you get off at Obilní trh. Both options take you close to the faculty. You can pay by card directly on the tram. There are yellow ticket machines where you use your card at the boarding. You only put your card to the machine, there is no need to push any buttons or wait for a receipt. Since you will be getting off the tram in less than 15 minutes, use your card also when leaving the tram. You will be charged slightly less.
