Sermon literature, emerging in the 2nd half of the 14th century in the Czech lands, is a scarce and up to the present not very oftenly used literary source, giving an account of the life and all cultural aspects of late Middle Ages. This time in the Czech lands tends to be connected not only with the beginnings of the time of the Czech Reformation, leading into the activities of John Huss and his colleagues, but also with the movement known as devotio moderna, and further with the so called Czech proto-humanism. These widely discussed cultural and historical phenomena have not been explained in the context of the sermon features so far. An overwhelming majority of these texts have not been published yet either, not even interpreted, in any other than the first level as a source for general history or for tracing the religious conflicts of the time.
