The present project belongs to the field of academic study of religions and involves both empirical and theoretical research. The unique collection of Náprstek Museum provides the original empirical material for the study of links between textual and visual elements in Tibetan Buddhism. The project is interdisciplinary and brings together specialists from two universities and the museum. It includes also work on the electronic database of part of the collection with use of modern technologies. Detailed and thorough description and database of the chosen part of the collection (i.e. texts and pictures) is a basis for the following research. It forms the first part of the project, the documentary and descriptive phase. The second and main phase is analytically and interpretative. It involves the study of pictures and texts in the context of academic study of religions. The goals of the project lay not only in a more adequate documentation and description of the part of the collection on a higher level, but also in its application in following research. The outcome of the project comprises a series of articles in scientific journals and a monograph containing results of the research together with reproductions of the chosen items of the collection.
