Zdenka jelínková, one of our best ethnochoreologists, died in october 2005. Her contribution to the knowledge of folk dance has not yet been fully appreciated. She devoted both her theoretical and collecting work to folk dance - the number of records she collected amount to more than 5,000. Collections of dances and songs were a necessity for her as well as to document the vanishing range of traditonal dances. Searching form respondents, records of dances, their certification, cataloguing and issuing in anthologies, work in the field of dance theory, as well as professional participation in the folklore movement are merely an enumeration of basic roles of the process which helped save the traditonal dance as an important part of our culture. Evaluation of the life and work of this researcher is also a contribution to clafification of historic and social context of folk dance in our country.
