The proposed project aims to analyse the use and the functions of the historical present tense, a narrative technique with specific referential, textual, and expressive functions on different levels of text, in the Grottaferrata and Escorial versions of Byzantine epic poem Digenis Akritis (12th c.). The main outcome of the project will be a manuscript of an article submitted for publication in an international peer-reviewed journal.
