This project aims to de-marginalize one of the most important pre-modern cultures – the one of medieval Southern Caucasus in Late Antiquity. Therefore, it will examine the selected seventh-century architectural monuments of nowadays Armenia and Georgia, with at least fragmentary preserved monumental decoration. The emphasis will be put on applying the latest knowledge about the cultural and historical background of this region and the latest archaeological and art historical research with the main goal: to interpret the monuments according to the standards of modern Art History and to include the region into the global narrative of Art History.

This project will permit me to integrate and improve the research promoted by the international team of the Lade Agency project "Cultural Interactions in the Medieval Subcaucasian Region: Historiographical and Art-Historical Perspectives (GF21-01706L)".
