The aim of the project is a scientific evaluation of an important early mediaeval fortified site at Pohansko near Břeclav. New questions and new methods including modern information technologies shall extend the on-going research. The project is a contin uation of scientific work carried out by the Institute of Archaeology and Museology of Masaryk University in Brno, which began at Pohansko forty years ago. The project focuses at the interpretation of rural settlement in the hinterland of the fortified s ite, that supplied the populous centre with agricultural products, and of craftsman area from northeaster part of Pohansko. Evaluating various components of the settlement both of the fortified site and of the hinterland by means of modern data processin g, we can create a model of social-economic structure of the early mediaeval centre. In the project we use new information technologies, such as geographical information systems, databases and multivariable statistical analysis.
