Arise and the social structure of the civic strata of the community on the Czech territory with regard to the circumstances of the arising city between the years 1848 - 1914 make the theme of the proposed project. For the understanding of this phenomenon it is at first necessary to thoroughly define the structure at least of the civic strata elite centred in the county council by means of a very detailled collective biography. The next step will be definition of more general rules of the civic strata arise and specification of their member´s position in public life mainly on the municipal level but in some cases also on the county and realm level. The final part of the study shall concentrate on the attitudes of the civic elite to the issues of technical and social modernisation in the context of its development within an ethnically and socially varied city agglomeration. As results of the project there will be a database of the Brno civic elite members, a collection comparing civic strata genesis in the cities with development of the whole society and a scientific symposium monitoring development of the local county government during the 19th and 20th century.
