The aim of the project is to analyze the culture and art of today's Serbia in the 12th and 13th centuries with a focus on the monastery of Studenica. This monastery was found in the last quarter of the 12th century. It was commissioned by Stefan Nemanja, a member of the most prominent dynasty of Serbia that ruled between 1166 and 1371. It included three churches that hide the wall painting from the 12th and 13th centuries inside. The catholicon of the monastery is the place where Nemanja's relics rest even today. The emphasis will be put on applying the latest knowledge about the cultural and historical background of this region and the latest archeological and art historical research and subsequently, there will be an analysis and reinterpretation of architecture and decorations with regard to the function of the monument and the global situation - both political and artistic.
