Description Content of the teaching programme: The course offers an outline, history and presence of Buryat Buddhism (a northern branch of Tibetan Buddhism. The first lecture informs about the historical development of Tibetan Buddhism in Mongolia and Buryatia with the special focus on religion and politics the history and presence. The second lecture informs about the religious revival in Buryatia. The topic is represented by a case study of recent history of Buryat Buddhism Bidiya D. Dandaron (1914-1974). The third lecture informs about Buryat “Triad of National Buddhist Jewels” with the special focus on its religious and political context. The fourth lecture informs about famous statue of Sandalwood Buddha. It is about the spread of Buddhism and wandering of statues: The topic is represented by a case study of the Beijing Sandalwood Buddha.
