Description The Essay affters the presentation of the winner in the wars of early new age in Czech lands and in Poland. The period from the late 16. and 17. Century in the history of Central Europe is referred as the century of wars. It is no wonder, that the wars, those victorious and those vanquished, were the focus of interest for society in early modern Central Europe, and the presentation and interpretation of the historical events was, at that time, the domain of the fine arts. Images of war as seen by the winners and losers can be divided into two categories. The first can be described as "the apotheosis of war". According to this concept, war provides an opportunity for one to prove one's heroism and enter into the honorable groups of the "knights of Christ". The second category - following in the wake of Jacques Callot - can be called the "terror of war". It perceives war as a disaster that threatens not only the poor and vulnerable population, but spreads in the entirety of society.
