Description | Hesitation phenomena are a research topic in different disciplines as psycholinguistics, psychology or second language acquisition research. The following chapter gives an overview of communication-theoretically oriented studies that investigated the perception of hesitation phenomena, their effect in interpersonal communciation and their role for emotional and other ascriptions to speakers. Furthermore, the results of a preliminary study investigating those effects and ascriptons in an intercultural communication setting are presented and discussed with regard to further research steps. |
