Description This research was focused on 165 individuals coming from Pohansko-Kostel (n = 118), Pohansko-Lesní školka (n = 24) and Znojmo-Hradiště (n = 23). All these locations date from the same period, which means they all are dated to the 9th, i.e. to Great Moravia epoch. Firstly, age was estimated using the method of age assessment by human dental wear (Lovejoy, 1985) and then by the Combined method (Sjovold, 1975) which is recommended as more accurate. The outcome of the research is that methods show different results. Up to the age of 40 (according to the Combined method), there is no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) between these two methods. However, from 40 years on, there are essential systematically differences between them. The method based on dental wear proved to give increasingly lower age assessment compared to the Combined method. So as the conclusion we recommend to use other methods (for example the Combined method), at least for Old Slavonic populations, with higher upper limit and with lesser effect of external factors than the method of age assessment based on human dental wear. Another conclusion is that there is no statistical difference in dental wear between men and women within studied populations.
