Description The lecture presents challenges that are posed for traditional theories of personal identity by practical concerns such as responsibility, compensation, survival and egoistic concern, which have traditionally been justified by personal identity. The latest research in personal identity indicates that these practical concerns cannot, in fact, be justified by any informative criterion of numerical identity, and, thus, it is necessary to give up the traditional belief that numerical identity practically matters.
