Description This book is published as part of the "Leading Figures in Moravian Archaeology" series. The biography section points out Palliardi's cultural and political activities (taking place chiefly in Znojmo and Moravské Budějovice), brings the characteristics of his personality (strong social feeling, liberalism, anticlericalism) and, in particular, introduces his research work associated with archaeology. During his stay in Znojmo Palliardi explored the stratigraphic situation of the cultural layers around the Znojmo Castle rotunda, and in 1888 discovered in Znojmo-Novosady a Neolithic culture that came to be known as the Moravian Painted Ware culture. When working as a notary in Moravské Budějovice, Palliardi researched layers at the "Starý Zámek" location, near Jevišovice, and used the results to outline the periodization of the Upper Neolithic (Eneolithic) in the Middle Danube area.
