Description The aim of the paper is to offer in the first place a short introduction on presence of lexical units of Gypsy origin in different varieties of Latin American Spanish, making use of lists and catalogues of Gypsy loanwords in European Spanish, and paying attention mostly to those which are generally known in Latin America. But the main interest of the paper lies in the presence and structure of Gypsy loanwords in the Mexican variety of Spanish and in its criminal and popular slangs, generally known as caló. The lexical units in question will be excerpted from various dictionaries of Mexican Spanish but mainly from Diccionario del espaňol usual en México and from Diccionario breve de mexicanismos. Special attention is paid to their textual documentation in contemporary Spanish corpora and to the correspondence and adequacy of the textual documentation to their lexicographical treatment.
