| Description | The author of the present contribution The Area of Central Europe and the Place of National Literatures: the national and the supranational deals with the problem of area studies as an important vehicle how to solve the puzzle of a wider context of literature. Area studies – according to the Brno conception rather philological-area studies - form a cluster of various disciplines. The author demonstrates the objections to their conceptions: the absence of the strictly delimitated boundaries of the discipline, serious methodological problems and the unclear qualities of undergraduates and graduates. In accordance with the kernel of the subject the author discusses the question of the national and supranational, the clash between areal and language-ethnic principle and its complementarity in the area of Central Europe. |
