| Description | In lexical resources to Frank Zappa are usually given two contemporary composers who influenced him in his youth. Neither of them was American, but both spent in the U.S. at least the final stage of their life. Igor Stravinsky and Edgard Varese. Why is it that the young Zappa chose two greatest living composer? Intuitively? On the basis of the intrinsic affinity? Or was the quality of their work so obvious? Varese was for Zappa a true idol. For many years watching his production, searched it, studied, and when he wanted meet more than seventy years old composer in person, Varese travelled to Europe to realized one of his most profound works, Poeme électronique (1958). A personal meeting never took place, but the surviving Zappa's texts to Varese prove decisive influence on the aesthetics of his personal development. |
