Description Anthropomorphic figural art of the Neolithic and Chalcolithic of Southeast Europe is the centre of attention (but in broader approach with regard to space and time) in the investigation presented in the book of Svend Hansen. From the geographical aspect, attention is directed towards the Neolithic period in the Near East in order elucidate genesis of this art. In the chronological aspect figural art from the Palaeolithic is drawn into view. Namely, the calibration of radiometric dates has led to basic and new approaches to absolute dating of the Neolithic, whereby gaps in the dates fot the time between the lates Palaeolithic art in Europe and that of the oldest early Neolithic in western Asia can now be filled. Consequently, the present investigation aims to survey anthropomorphic figural art from the Palaeolithic period in Eurasia, on the one hand, and from the Neolithic in Mesopotamia and Southeast Europe, on the other.
