Description The presented article is based on the master's thesis and deals with proper names of train lines operating in the Czech Republic between 1993 and 2011. Most of the 294 proper names, which represent the material basis of research, were gathered especially by excerption from available timetables of Czech Railways. The introductory part of article is devoted to the brief presentation of master's thesis and the position of proper names of train lines in the onomastics. This part is followed by the summary of existing bibliographic sources relating to the matters of the proper names of train lines and to the presentation of classification, which is based on motivational and structural models. The most important section of this article is the summary of proper names of train lines classification results. Attention is concentrated on the developmental changes that the names of train lines have under gone through in our territory since the mid-1960s.
