Description The monography, inspired in the approach to the investigated topic particularly by the theory of central place and basic tenets of structuralism, has dealt with the relationship of the private town in the early modern era to the manorial authorities and their officials on the one hand and to the rural background on the other. For answering the given questions, we have chosen the town of Svitavy as the center of the Svitavy domain, namely in the time horizon of the 17th century. The introductory sections of the first two basic, chronologically delimited chapters have presented the town or better the domain as one of elements in the wider structure of the estate of the bishop of Olomouc. In the next sections the town has then been postulated to the position of the center in the narrower structure of the domain, and we have investigated to what extent its relationships to other settlement units and manorial authorities were realized in the given delimitation, and how far the town was defined by them. In these intentions the presented text has been directed to demographic, administrative, legal and economic questions, which is, however, not to suggest that the other spheres of town life played a less significant role in the given period and in the given area.
