Description The study explores the prevalence of a specific type of behaviour - self-harm in a non-clinical population of children attending later grades of primary school, taking a look at the frequency of occurrence and possible causes of this phenomenon, different forms of self-harm, gender differences and other significant connections. Our main goal was to describe the issue of self-harm in the Czech context and expand on the knowledge yielded by previous qualitative research (Havelková, 2009, Černá, 2008, Kriegelová, 2008, Franců, 2006) as well as our own preliminary studies. The measures used in the present exploratory study included the Self-harm inventory (Sansone, sansone and Wiederman, 1995), the Self-harm behaviour Questionaire (Gutierrez, 2001) and a newly designed guestionaire capturing the abovementioned variables.
