Description Masaryk's activities in the field of belles-lettres form an integral part of his scientific and political thinking. They were most intensive in 1883-1897. The journals Athenaeum (1883-1893), Čas (from 1886) and Naše doba (1893-1897) brought Masaryk's political and scientific papers focusing on philosophy, sociology and history as well as his literary critiques, reviews and more general literary-critical and aesthetical thoughts. Masaryk's texts were marked by their deep insight, wide range of knowledge and courage. He considered art to be one of the means of moral, aesthetic and social influence on people.
