Description The double-tower castle above the town was open to traffic and replaced the stronghold at Staré Brno (Old Brno). It was built by Wenceslas I and Přemysl Ottokar II after 1240. The castle was first mentioned in written sources in 1277. From 1350 on it has been residence of Moravian margraves. Representative buildings were located in the eastern part, accessory and utility buildings at the perimeter. In the 16th century, before it was rebuilt to a fortress, the castle has been held by aristocracy.
