Description Since 1980, the progress in research into castles and fortresses has been accelerated by excavations and documentation survey. An example is represented by the research on Rokštejn Castle (incl. photogrammetry). Initial survey was carried out at fortresses in Horní Dunajovice and Zubštejn (at the latter one newly 3D laser scanning). The development of documentation (since 1703) is exemplified by a sequence of ground plans of the Nový hrad Castle near Blansko, which attained the form of an artificial ruin around 1810. Recently the Sádek Chateau (Castle) has been surveyed and the knowledge on Veveří and Špilberk Castles has gradually been enhanced. From this and from other examples follows that documentation and survey are undoubtedly associated and all opportunities must be seized to obtain as much as possible information.
