Description The paper is an attempt for reconstruction of coding (creative) and decoding (reading) process, both dependent on temporary collective imaginative patterns, which funded the historic-ontological status of two significant works of the Czech interwar music: Štafeta [The Relay] (1927), a string quartet by Janáček’s pupil Vilém Petrželka (1889–1967), and Sinfonietta (1926) by Leoš Janáček (1854–1928).
