Description Religious feasts play an important role in people's lives from time immemorial. In the ancient times on the territory of ancient Greece and Rome it was the same. In Rome, the day dedicated to religious festivals called dies festi, and thanks to the ancient sources and archaeological discoveries, we can reconstruct a large part of the Roman calendar, including course of religious celebrations. Because the early Christian church was expanded in the territory of the Roman Empire and it had to fight with the traditional Roman gods about their followers, Christian celebrations preserved the festivals and rituals from the period of Roman polytheism. In some cases we can talk about complete, but not blanket adopting of entire course of ancient rituals. Old habits rooted in new religious symbolism and triumphant Christian faith is adopted as its own, often without knowing about their ancient origin and meaning. Holidays subsequently developed in a religious environment belongs entirely different religiously oriented society where older rituals and symbolism got a completely new and different content.
