Description The aim of this paper is to describe the role of an assistant teacher as a new element on our schools in a broader context. Emphasis is laid on the comparison of legislation of this "new" role in our schools with practical experience. There is a theoretical basis Education Act (Act no. 561/2004 Coll.) And subsequent legislation (Decree No. 147/2011 Coll., § 7 etc.) governing the basic framework for the teaching assistant. Contribution compares practical, personal experience of the author and theory and the work of the teacher's assistant and puts them into the context of the school as a whole. Assistant teacher describes cooperation with other educational staff and highlights the shortcomings of this communication. The article is conceived as a basis for a future case study on the above subject.
