Description Remarkable diversities in cursing practice can be found when comparing the preserved defixiones from particular provinces of the Roman Empire and their specific features. The evidence of defixiones preserved in the area of the Roman Empire is a rich mixture of texts mostly made by professionals, which have been found in the African provinces and include complicated magical apparatus, and the texts found in all other parts of the Roman Empire, made by laymen.
