Description During an archaeological survey project at the Benedictine provostry “Na luhu” in Brno-Komárov in 1973 the contents of a stone well were studied. The well was used as a waste trap once its primary function had been abandoned. A representative collection of items was retrieved dating between the second half of the 14th century and the first half of the 15th century. Aside from ordinary pottery items, fragments of relatively luxurious glass vessels were found. The conditions in the well also allowed for the preservation of numerous wooden artefacts. Particularly unique is a set of chess pieces and two wooden toy swords. The article introduces the collection in its entirety for the very first time, offering for comparison material characterising the material culture of the High Middle Ages in Brno.
