Description The monograph French inspiration in the Carolingian epopee of Julius Zeyer focuses on finding sources that inspired the Czech poet to write an epopee on Charles the Great. The first part of the study Julius Zeyer and Charles the Great is divided into two parts: the first one focuses on Zeyer, his time and the literary generation as well as on Zeyer’s unique place among the artists of his time. It deals with problematic terminology of Zeyer’s way of taking over and treating medieval French sources. The second unit focuses on Charles the Great in Zeyer’s work and on his place in the French songs of heroic deeds. The second part of the study called Renewed images in the Carolingian epopee presents in detail individual parts of the Carolingian epopee. The third part Polyphony of Zeyer’s poetic cathedral deals with the main motifs in mythology that co-create the archetype of a cathedral.
