Description From significant Czech migration to Bulgaria in the late 19th century, Czech teachers were the largest vocational group. The late 19th century was also one of the epoch-making periods of Bulgarian history when the system of secondary and grammar schools has been formed along with other institutions. On one hand this situation created a possibility for work of foreign teachers, but on the other hand local schools faced many problems. One of most perceptible ones was shortage of proper textbooks. Some Czech teachers were involved in this important publishing activity. In this paper I briefly present general situation of Bulgarian education system of the period, summarize information about Bulgarian textbooks written by Czechs, and introduce several Czech writers.
