Description The goal of this contribution is to present the evolution of undergraduate and further teacher education in socialist Czechoslovakia. We present the theme of teacher education using conversations with retired teachers, which we process using oral historical methods. We are interested in how the education took place and how it was perceived by teachers at the time.We have discovered that teacher education has undergone a large number of reforms, which were undertaken in a disorganised fashion under strong ideological influence, or even direct pressure from the Communist party of Czechoslovakia. The participants of our study have adapted to these educational conditions, have not been opponents of the political system of the time, some even having been members of the party itself. They have rated the content of their teacher education as being of high quality. They positively view both the system and content of further education, although with certain reservations towards political courses, which were a mandatory component of it at the time.
