| Description | The Latin verb adiuro is attested within the Latin magical formula: adiuro te demon, in 14 curse texts coming exclusively from African provinces, which are dated prevalently into the third century CE. The magic formula with adiuro is used to address the dark powers, which are asked to influence or harm the victims of curses. This contribution pursues the further development and use of this formula on sepulchral inscriptions after the rise of Christianity as well as on the medieval Christian amulets. |
