Description The article deals with the ideological education of children in several schools in Brno in the time of consolidation of the Communist regime. The issue is dealt with in two levels in the article. First, the examination of the ideological point of view and of the fundamental research issue of how the ideology worked with the concept of the childhood and why the ideologists focused on childhood. The article describes the utopic idea of creation of the generation of the “new people“, as well as the pragmatic reasons for building loyalty aimed at ensuring the continuity of the regime. The main purpose of the efforts was to raise the children to become conscious and disciplined human beings understanding the principles of collectivism. The second level deals with the everyday practice in schools and describes the way of how the “new man“ could have been raised in specific schools. The regime developed and applied specifically adapted teaching and educational methods which are divided into four categories in the article – education by example, education through work, education through love to nature and education through culture. Successes of the Communist regime in the education of the “new people“ used to be presented on mass celebrations, e.g. during the celebration of birthday of President Klement Gottwald
