| Description | The aim of this paper is to discuss the processes of data collection and analysis in conversation-analytic (CA) research. After a summary of the assumptions that underlie CA I will discuss the options that may significantly influence the analysis. These options include the range of data to be collected (audio recordings, video recordings, the observer’s paradox; field notes, teaching materials, etc.), transcription system (focus on various aspects of the recordings, the participants’ non-verbal behavior), and the analytic procedure (selection of data for analysis, the relationship between analysis and transcription). To exemplify these choices I will use the data and outcomes from the research project Classroom interaction in English language teaching in higher education (GAČR 15-08857S). |
