Citation
Description This paper analyses two pieces of literature, Hovory s TGM written by Karel Čapek and Spomienky osobnej archivárky written by Anna Horáková-Gašparíková. Both are linked through the identical main character - the key figure of the history of the First Czechoslovak Republic, Tomáš Gariggue Masaryk. The paper focuses on the authors' (who were both close to the president) depiction of president's personality, as well as his attitudes and feelings about Slovakia. Even though these works were published much later, both were written during the president's life, which is one of the reasons why Czech-Slovak relations stand as one of their central topics. Despite Čapek's Hovory s TGM being quite theological and philosophical compared to the more factual work Spomienky Anny Horákovej-Gašparíkovej, the issue of Slovakia can be found in this work as well, even in those chapters that do not indicate it with their titles.
