Description The European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) becomes effective on 25 May 2018. By that date, all EU institutions and organizations must be able to demonstrate that their systems, procedures and internal legislation are compliant with this Regulation. The Institute of Computer Science of Masaryk University actively prepares for implementation of the GDPR and coordinates its course with other academic institutions in the Czech Republic. The paper provides brief information on the GDPR regulation – its history, the main principles in the processing of personal data, and the changes that the regulation brings to the current legislation. It also mentions the CESNET Development Fund project for the preparation and pilot verification of the GDPR implementation methodology in the university IT environment and other follow-up plans, which also include the co-operation of Czech universities in the preparation and submission of a centralized development project of the Ministry of Education on GDPR implementation.
