Description The paper gives a first and we may say a preliminary notice of the newest knowledge about the historical gold mining in a part of South Bohemia in the Bohemian massif, which in the former great era of mining archaeological research by Jaroslav Kudrnáč clearly stood apart. There shell be formuled a basic questions of the incoming study project, based on the mining and exploitation of the gold in the Vodňany region. Even though some of that exploitations areas (mostly gold placers) were mapped in the 20th century, we are surprised at their extent and high degree of preservation as well as at the wide range of many types of aboveground relics of the gold washing sites or placer gold mines as well, which give evidence of the gold washing procedures by the streams. But the age of the documented exploitation areas is not clearly identifiable, because of the absence of the archaeological findings or other datation evidence, like dendrochronology and 14C radiometry.
