Description The paper introduced various ways of imitating Ovid in late antique centos from Virgil, especially in three mythological epyllia with the motif of metamorphosis (Narcissus, Progne et Philomela, Europa: Anth. Lat. 9, 13 a 14 Riese). These texts were inspired by Ovid both in terms of content and narrative technique. The characteristics of cyclic narrative common to all of them are shown to be clear echoes of one of the most prominent generative mechanisms of Ovid´s narrative in the Metamorphoses rather than features specific to the given genre or the cento technique.
