Description A continuing Survey of the Byzantine fortifications in the Eastern Crete I will be presenting the preliminary results of 2017 field season realized by the team of the Department of Archaeology and Museology from Masaryk University on Eastern Crete. This topic represents one of the core issues of our research portfolio. And I want to present the surveyed fortified settlements and other fortified sites from that region. There is a lot of underestimated facts about byzantine settlements and life generaly during Studied periods on Crete. We are concerned to figure out patterns and cause of attempts to build such fortified sites As was Oxa on the high position. And Spinalonga, Irapytna, Lato Pros Kamara(Agios Nikolaos) in coastal Area. We also attempt to enlarge our knowledge about peak fortified settlements problematic. In means to cover their relationship to its inhabitants and governing elites (ea. Eastern Roman Empire, Christian Church officials and local aristocracy).I will briefly describe conditions under which our survey was taking place. Because these have significant role in understanding the land and settlement distribution in between surveyed sites. At last I would like to present the further perspectives and goals of our project on Crete. 2018 survey and further inspections and Excavations on sites Oxa and Priniatikos Pyrgos
