Description Brno municipal police officially started its activities on December 1st 1866. The daily press also informed the public about what the guards´ primary responsibilities will be: Issues regarding care for the safety of people and security of property, issues regarding guidance, surveillance near pubs and inns, lodging houses and common rooms, supervision at celebrations on Sundays and feasts, forbidden games and morality concerns in general, oversight of public establishments and parlours, coaches and porters seeing especially to the stated price, reconciliation of disputes and applying criminal law to prevent punishable trespasses. By on the other hand, the Reich police had widened their powers not only to investigate serious crimes, but to issues relating to politics, public press, foreigners and so on. The main person of the i. r. police headquarters in Brno was Anton le Monnier (future first police president), main person of the municipal police Josef Wolf.
